Cohab Membership Rules and Procedures
What is Cohab?
Cohab is Shreveport’s premier entrepreneurial community. Cohab seeks to provide a shared, community-driven workspace for independent workers. It exists because of its members and for its members. Cohab is a community for creative, freelance, independent and nomadic professionals. As a member, you are not a customer, you are an active part of the Cohab community.
Cohab Philosophies and Values
Collaboration: One of the great benefits of working in a coworking space is that you will meet all sorts of people with all sorts of knowledge and where possible collaborate to support each other’s activities.

Openness: We believe in transparency and openness. In a world where people are free, but ideas are not, only a few benefit. When ideas are free, everyone benefits. Therefore, we encourage open spaces and discussions.

Community: We thrive on connections and mutual support. It is important that everyone give to, as well as benefit from, the strong community coworking creates.

Accessibility: In order to be fully open, we must make the effort to be accessible to all. This means that we endeavor to create both a financially and a physically accessible space. We are committed to this principle and welcome feedback on how we can make it even more accessible.

Sustainability: Shared spaces are also better for the planet, so we like to take that a little further and make certain our space is environmentally responsible. In using the facilities of Cohab, we expect people to behave in a way that is congruent with those values, specifically:
-
Respect the space and leave it as you find it. If you moved things around then return them to their original location and please tidy up after yourself.
-
Give back the equivalent of what you take out. If you’ve found great people willing to share their time, knowledge, and friendship with you, please pay it forward (why don’t you ask that new member to lunch today?).
-
This is a coworking space and there is an expectation that collaboration among members will occur. When offered, take advantage of the help and support of others while respecting their right to get their own work done.
-
Respect the people around you and embrace differences. One of the great things about coworking is it draws in a variety of people, enjoy and respect the differences.
-
Spread the word to like-minded people and promote Cohab’s mission and good will in the space and in the community at large.

To be eligible for the Referral Program Incentive, you must be a current member of Cohab in and be up to date on your account. The following restrictions also apply.
-
The referred friend must purchase a recurring monthly membership from Cohab.

Graduation Policy
Regarding the graduation policy for tenants/members in the space, Cohab will adopt the following policies and criteria to identify and pinpoint achievements among members:
-
All monthly workspace members will complete an annual assessment which will track their business' growth and success at Cohab.
-
All monthly workspace tenant/member(s) with at least 4 employees will be considered and evaluated for graduation progress on an ongoing quarterly schedule and on a case by case review basis (fulltime members will be defined as a member with a 12 month renewing year to year membership in the space).
-
Each monthly workspace member will have their membership reviewed by Cohab’s board of directors based on the following growth criteria and bench marks:
-
Number of employees currently and anticipated in the coming (3) years
-
An evaluation of financial growth and project needs within their organization
-
Assessment of additional space needs and care for tenant/member in conjunction with both (a) and (b) coming to fruition and if deemed necessary, step # 3 begins.
-
If the tenant and board of Directors at Cohab Foundation see the needs of the company/member are greater than the space requirements and continuum of care that Cohab can provide then the following will take place:
-
A successful exit game plan and timeline will be developed between Cohab and member(s) and begin to be implemented.
-
Plans outlined in (a) will be shared in conjunction with Cohab’s anchor partners (Downtown Development Authority (DDA), City Of Shreveport’s Economic Development team, North Louisiana Economic Partnership, and the Greater Bossier Economic Development Foundation) on how to best assess the needs of the tenant moving forward and graduation out of the space begins.
-
Recap and data will be collected on all graduates and be available for all parties needs and an evaluation of the successful role of Cohab and coworking model will be given to the DDA on a quarterly basis.
-
-
Cohab and its anchor partners will work with graduating members to locate, if possible, a new location within the limits of downtown Shreveport. All members are asked to consider and exhaust all downtown Shreveport location options before considering new locations outside of city limits.
-

COHAB “GOLDEN RULES”
Putting the “CO” in Coworking
COoperation, COnsideration… COworking? It’s no COincidence (sorry, we couldn’t help
ourselves) that these words all start out the same way. We want everyone to be able to be
productive and have fun at Cohab. With that in mind, here are some “golden rules” you can use as your guide to helping us build the kind of coworking community we’d all like to be a part of.
-
Do unto others as you’d have done unto you. Yes it’s an oldie, but it couldn’t be more important.
-
We’re not your mother or your maid. It’s your space to make a mess in which means it’s your space to clean up. Don’t make us call mom.
-
Our number one goal at Cohab is to build a strong and supportive community for our coworkers. We reserve the right to ask anyone who can’t get along well with others to leave.
-
Leave it/put it back where you found it. Enough said.
-
Cohab’s goal is to balance a good time with a good work space. Draw on the knowledge of those around you, but respect it when they tell you they need to buckle down and get some work done.
-
Respect the people around you and embrace differences. One of the great things about co-working is it draws in a variety of people; enjoy and respect the difference.
-
We love the new Lady Gaga song too, but unless the whole room agrees, we should both listen through a pair of headphones.
-
Be nice. People will like you more that way.
Guidelines for Use of Facilities
Telephone Etiquette
-
Please be considerate when using your cell phone for a call in Cohab’s space.

Each membership is designed to give workspace access to only one user at any time. While we welcome you to invite non-member collaborators to work with you for short periods of time, their visit should last no more than one day. A visitor needs to become a member if their usage becomes constant in the space and they are utilizing the facilities beyond typical visitor privileges.

To access, on Windows, simply install the print drivers (either from the Brother’s site or from the disc in the printer cart drawer). Select the option for just the drivers, and for wifi (no print server) set up. Then when ready to print, simply select the Brother 8900 from list of available printers. Macs generally have the drivers built in, so you should just be able to search for the printer then print to it.
Kitchen procedures
Your mother doesn’t work here, yadda yadda. Please return your dished to the sink so they can be run through the dishwasher.
Discontinuing Membership
Discontinuation of any membership shall take place in the following way:
Discontinuation Date – Your “Discontinuation Date” is defined as the first day of the month after termination notice is given.
Notify Staff – Notice of membership termination should be given to Cohab staff, in writing (email is fine), no later than the 15th of the month of discontinuation to allow time for payment shut down.
Complete Exit Survey - At Cohab, we strive to improve the services we offer our client every day. One powerful way to do this is to conduct an exit survey with each exiting member of our space. This survey will be sent to you via email after your termination notice is given. We ask that you please complete this survey before your Discontinuation Date.
Prepare for End of Access – Your access to Cohab’s space will be turned off on your Discontinuation Date. Please make sure that the following steps have been completed before that time.
Remove Personal Belongings – Remove all personal items from Cohab before the last day of the month in which membership was terminated. Any personal items that remain in Cohab after your discontinuation date will be boxed and stored for 30 days. Items will be available for pickup by appointment only. Cohab reserves the right to dispose of any personal items left at Cohab for more than 30 days after your Discontinuation Date.
Forward Mail – Please work with the post office to make sure your mail is forwarded to your new mailing address. Cohab will store mail for 30 days after your Discontinuation Date. After 30 days, Cohab reserves the right to dispose of any unclaimed or newly received mail.
Any special requests involving the discontinuation of their membership should be emailed to Cohab staff.
